Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has admitted he would like more players to be like one specific player at Spurs.

A lot of change has occurred at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium over the last year with Ange Postecoglou’s arrival being one.

And the Australian’s arrival has seen a number of players flourish, but he has also demanded the same levels from those who may not start every week.

It is one of his squad members who has only started 11 times in the Premier League that has seriously impressed the 58-year-old so far.

What Ange Postecoglou said about Ben Davies

The arrival of Destiny Udogie has seen Ben Davies‘ spot in the squad reduced firmly as an option off the bench.

Udogie has nailed down the spot at left-back in the starting XI and has meant the Welshman has had his patience tested.

Davies has seen the majority of his league starts come form centre-back earlier in the term following the injury to Micky van de Ven.

Speaking in his pre-Luton Town press conference, Postecoglou shared his admiration for the £10m Welshman and the way he carries himself.

He said: “Ben’s an outstanding character. I sensed that straight away in the way he carries himself, the way he thinks about the game, the way he thinks about his position in the game, the influence he can have.

“From my perspective, the more of those kind of guys you can have in a dressing room, it helps you make sure the standards and environment you want to create is going to be one to take us to another level. Ben’s certainly one of those.

“He’s been great whenever he’s played for us this year, obviously probably wanted to play a bit more but at the same time it’s testament to his character that when he has played he’s been ready to play. He trains the house down every day.”

Could Ben Davies become the next Tottenham manager?

Although Davies has been playing Premier League football for the best part of a decade now, it has not hindered his life outside of the game.

Many Premier League footballers would be satisfied with their day’s work after training and retreat to their Playstation.

Not Davies. The Welshman has earned himself a Bachelor’s degree and, more recently, picked up his UEFA A-licence.

At just 30-years-old, Davies still has plenty of years ahead of him on the pitch. However, his post-retirement plan already looks to be set in coaching.

And journalist Alasdair Gold has admitted he would not be surprised to see Davies become a future Spurs manager.

He said: “We could be talking about Ben Davies as a future top manager. Could be in a position to hang up his boots and go straight into it. I don’t know if that would work with a club like Spurs, but yeah, I think he’s definitely one to watch.”

Spurs fans have already seen former midfielder Ryan Mason take the reins on a number of occasions and Davies is already stepping up his coaching development.

He may not be one of the players who fans will go home praising after watching Spurs play, but his influence behind the scenes is evident.

Postecoglou demands high levels of effort and to see a player doing just that, despite not being a regular starter, shows just how professional the Welshman is.
