Journalist Alasdair Gold is expecting Tottenham Hotspur to offer Son Heung-min a new contract soon.

Gold has been speaking in his latest YouTube video and discussed the possibility of Son being offered a new deal.

The 31-year-old was named as Tottenham’s new captain before the season got underway following the departure of Harry Kane.

Son has stepped up to his new role and started to regain his best form on the pitch too, with the South Korean star netting a hat-trick at Turf Moor last time out.

The winger has just under two years left on his current deal after penning a four-year contract with Spurs back in 2021.

And it seems that fresh terms for the club’s new skipper could be on the horizon for Tottenham.

Gold expects Tottenham to offer Son new contract

Speaking in his latest YouTube video, Gold feels it’s the right time for Tottenham to offer Son a new deal.

“He’s only got a couple of years left, he is a [CAA] Base player as well so they’ll be looking after him,” the journalist said.

“And he’s the captain of the club, I think that would be a great move and yes he’s in his thirties but I would say another year or two on the end of that, why not?

“Terrific advert for the football club, the kind of person he is, the kind of player he is and just how good a human being he is.

“I do think if you’re going to be really cynical, I’m sure Sonny brings in so much money for Spurs because of just the huge kind of reputation he has across the world but obviously of course across Asia.

“I’m sure the money he brings in makes a new contract a no-brainer. Whether he wants to sign it is another thing.

“I think he’s very happy right now and if you’re going to get him to commit, now is probably the time.”

The Spurs News View

While Son still has two years left on his current deal, it would make sense for the club to offer him fresh terms while he remains a key figure in the squad.

Son has proven to be an inspired piece of business after Spurs snapped him up for just £22 million back in 2015.

At 31, the Spurs skipper will probably need replacing over the coming years but he remains an influential figure in the dressing room.
