Lucas Bergvall’s cameo for Sweden leaves the media all in agreement over Tottenham star, Ange Postecoglou will be encouraged

Lucas Bergvall was given some good minutes in Sweden’s 6-0 win over Azerbaijan as they secured promotion in the Nations League.

Sweden are quickly becoming one of the dark horses for the 2026 World Cup with so many emerging top talents now at their disposal. Most notably, their attacking front three of Alexander Isak, Dejan Kulusevski and Viktor Gyokeres look a serious threat.

Bergvall was given some important minutes in the impressive victory and his display has left the Swedish media in agreement over how he got on.

Lucas Bergvall impresses Swedish media vs Azerbaijan

The Swedish media have been raving about Bergvall’s display against Azerbaijan as the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder was given 24 minutes of action. Despite being introduced when the score was 5-0, the 18-year-old came on looking incredibly motivated to make an impression.

The teenager hasn’t had much game time under Ange Postecoglou and he looked eager to make sure he made his mark in this Nations League clash.

SvenskaFans gave him a 2/5 rating: “Strong second for the Tottenham talent who was alert and kept trying in a match that was already over.” Fotbollskanalen also awarded him two stars and wrote: “Came on when the match was already decided and tried very hard. Clever and good with the ball.”

Bergvall produced a well-rounded display for Sweden with some great passing and worked very hard to pressure the opposition.

Postecoglou will be encouraged by his display for the national team with the young Swede having struggled for Spurs over recent weeks.

Dejan Kulusevski really impresses vs Azerbaijan

Meanwhile, Kulusevski starred in the win with two goals and an assist, with SvenskaFans writing: “Was in a real game mood and involved in a lot going forward. Scored two goals and was involved in two more.

“Made it 1-0 after a simple and good finish. Then a good preparatory work to 2-0. Scored 4-0. Involved in the 6-0 when he set the ball to Saletros who assisted Gyokeres.”

Fotbollskanalen also sang his praises by stating: “Two-goal scorer and a constant threat as usual. Dribbles, finds surfaces and shoots. Has an incredible level in him is he gets this surface.”
