Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall has shared what the side have been working on in training under Thomas Frank which has already been on show a lot this season.

Spurs kicked off their Champions League campaign with a 1-0 win over Villarreal, with the goal coming as a result of a cross from the Swedish midfielder.

Bergvall was praised for his performance against the La Liga side, despite the fact it was largely a laboured display from the hosts in their European opener.

The young midfielder has been one of the standout performers of Spurs’ season so far, and looks a man revived since the new manager came into the club.

Lucas Bergvall shares Thomas Frank Tottenham training secret

Bergvall was asked after the game about his relationship with Frank, and if there had been anything they had been working on in training since he came in.

The Swede told Amazon Prime that making runs in behind has been a topic of interest on the training ground.

He said: “New fresh air. We spoke a lot about clean sheet mentality, because we conceded a lot last year. “It’s really good [my relationship with Frank], I just wanted to come back with the form from the start of the year, and help from him, a lot of video analysts to get better everyday.

“Yeah definitely [working on running in behind], especially when Mo gets the ball, to run in behind. We have talked a lot about that, because there is space there, and we can score goals.

“It’s top. Nothing bad to say about him, only good things.”

Frank’s training methods already making their mark

What Bergvall has said is being worked on in training has already begun to bear the fruits of their labour on the pitch.

His goal against West Ham came via a long pass over the top from centre-back Cristian Romero, putting him in position to score a stunning header.

Bergvall has made it clear to the manager that he should be one of the first names on the teamsheet right now, with the hope being that he can maintain this good form and not fall to injury like what happened at the backend of last season.
