Garth Crooks has placed Micky van de Ven in his team of the week and he has raved over the Tottenham star for his performance against Crystal Palace.

Tottenham beat the Eagles at Selhurst Park on Friday 2-1 and the result meant that they stay undefeated and also top of the Premier League.

Micky van de Ven was a top performer on the night, controlling possession with ease and also defending very well when called upon.

Spurs signed the Dutch international for £43m this summer and he has been key to the club having a great start to the season.

Garth Crooks raves over Tottenham star Micky van de Ven

The Spurs defender was named in the BBC Sport team of the week but pundit Garth Crooks, and he was very impressed with how easy the centre-back has adjusted to the division.

Writing on BBC Sport, Crooks raved over van de Ven. He said: “This kid is looking better with every appearance. It’s still early days in his career and there is a long way to go in the title race but Micky van de Ven looks like the real deal. The Netherlands international is quick, comfortable on the ball and likes a goal.

“He didn’t score in the Premier League leaders’ 2-1 victory at Crystal Palace on Friday, but no-one was complaining about that.

“What Van de Ven brings to the proceedings is a calm, steadying influence at the back for Spurs and provides Cristian Romero with a defensive partner he can not only rely on but help develop.”

It is great to see van de Ven receive the plaudits this weekend from Crooks. This season, the defender has started all 10 Premier League games, scoring one goal alongside his great defensive performances. Fellow summer signing James Maddison has also been praised, highlighting how good the transfer window was for Spurs.

More so, the tall defender is only 22-years-old, so it is frightening to imagine how high his ceiling is. He has a very bright future and he will be key to Spurs finishing well in the Premier League this season. Ange Postecoglou will be so delighted with how life at the North London club has gone so far.
