Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Ledley King has said Spurs had a player who even got the better of Steven Gerrard at Anfield.

The Spurs legend enjoyed some of the club’s finest memories in recent years having been apart of the last side to lift major silverware at the club.

And Ledley King has reflected on some of the players he worked with during his time at Spurs and admitted there was one which was particularly special.

What Ledley King said about Luka Modric

It may not come as a huge surprise that King has spoken about Luka Modric being one of the best players he played alongside.

The £15m midfield magician laced up 160 times for Spurs and played in their first ever Champions League campaign under Harry Redknapp.

King has recently been speaking with Rio Ferdinand on the Five YouTube channel where he singled out the Real Madrid star as one of the club greats.

However, he did also claim the Croatian was able to get the better of one of the Premier League’s best ever players in Gerrard.

He said: “When we brought him inside [from left midfield], we saw just how good Luka was. I think we thought he was a number 10 as well, but he was someone who liked to play deep and wanted to play and get the ball off the back foot and dictate things from there.

“So, Luka, I’ve seen Luka go to Anfield and play against Stevie [Gerrard] and you know how good Stevie is… and I’ve seen Luka dominate.”

Jermaine Jenas’ hilarious off-field story involving Modric

The Croatian has gone on to win just about everything possible with Real Madrid including a staggering five Champions League medals.

Perhaps most impressive of all is that he is still turning out for Carlo Ancelotti’s side at the age of 38.

His future remains uncertain as his contract is set to expire at the end of the term.

Going back to his time at Spurs, it seems Modric did not just enamour himself with his teammates on the pitch, but he also made a name for himself off it.

Speaking earlier in the year, Jeans revealed a hilarious story involving Modric following a players’ night out after he had signed.

Jenas said: “And at 10 o’clock, not even late, I have got a tap on my shoulder saying we need some help. I’ve gone into some cubical and Luka is basically asleep by the toilet, his Rolex has come flying off his wrist. The bouncer put him on his shoulder and we’ve taken him home and put him to bed. It was one of those where we were like what a guy, we are going to love you.”

Although Ange Postecoglou has some serious options in midfield, the Australian would surely welcome a talent of Modric’s quality this summer.

Not to say Spurs will be looking to bring in a 38-year-old over the coming months, but a player of his calibre would be a huge addition as the Lilywhites look to secure Champions League football.
