Tottenham Hotspur’s Heung-min Son will return to international duty with South Korea in just a matter of weeks.
Just days after being denied a place in the Asian Cup final, South Korea manager and Spurs legend Jurgen Klinsmann has provided an update on his captain.
Ange Postecoglou will be pleased to see the 31-year-old return to the fold following weeks without his captain as Spurs linger around the top four spots.
Heung-min Son returns to Tottenham
It has been claimed by the likes of Alasdair Gold that Son was to return to Hotspur Way on Thursday following South Korea’s elimination earlier in the week.
However, quotes from the South Korea manager have recently surfaced on his hopes for the Tottenham captain over the coming months.
Klinsmann said following Tuesday’s defeat: “I just texted back and forth with Sonny. Obviously, for someone like him, such an exceptional player, it’s even more emotional for him to take the fact you didn’t win the title now and bring it back to Korea. I totally understand his feelings.”
“But there’s no doubt Sonny comes back in March, and no doubt he’s our captain. He’s one of the best strikers in the world, and the next goal he can have with us is in the World Cup in America. I hope he could get some trophies in his club, if it’s doable, but he will be there with us in the future.”
Son’s return will be welcomed
Our captain has led by example this season with an impressive return of 17 goal involvements in the Premier League thus far.
And he was able to take his good form into the Asian Cup for his country where he was able to get on the scoresheet three times and provide an assist.
Although fans will be disappointed Son couldn’t get his hands on the trophy for his nation, seeing him back in the fold will be a great sight.
What won’t be great to see, though, is Son returning to South Korea for international duty next month.
Son and South Korea have World Cup Qualifiers to compete in and all Spurs fans will have their fingers crossed that he does not suffer an injury whilst going into the business end of the Premier League term.
Let’s just hope he can hit the ground running – hopefully on Saturday – and put his Asian Cup disappointment behind him.
