Jose Mourinho’s time at Tottenham Hotspur was cut abruptly short.
The Portuguese manager was going into a Carabao Cup Final and sitting 7th in the Premier League, yet Daniel Levy decided it was the end of the road for the Premier League legend.
Tottenham went on to lose the final, which is a decision that has baffled Mourinho to this very day.
Despite the bitter end – there’s no bad blood. Mourinho didn’t regret his time at Tottenham and even wished it could have ended a little differently.

Mourinho on Tottenham fans
Speaking on The Obi One podcast, Mourinho was asked about his ludicrous record with his previous clubs and he responded that he said it was important to create an ‘atmosphere’ around a club. However, he never got the chance to at Spurs.
“You create a certain atmosphere. This is something I always managed to create in every club… apart from Tottenham.
“Tottenham was in Covid. Covid time, empty matches. I never got the chance to say to Tottenham fans hello and goodbye.”
It was a strange time in football and it also evidently als affected managers – such as Mourinho.
Mourinho never got that Tottenham relationship with fans…
Love him or loathe him – you can’t deny Mourinho is one of the most charismatic men in all of football.
Part of his personality is the reason why so many of his former clubs adore him, and thanks to Covid, it could be argued that Tottenham never really got the full ‘Jose Mourinho experience’.
It was a strange end to his Tottenham career, that could have been so different. If Daniel Levy hadn’t pulled the trigger on his dismissal, could Tottenham have had a trophy?
If so, Mourinho’s tenure will have been remembered in a much different light. It was a peculiar decision.
