Tottenham Hotspur midfielder James Maddison has earned the plaudits after his display for England last night.

Having played two friendly games against Brazil and Belgium, James Maddison only featured for a mere 26 minutes across the two games.

However, it was apparent his cameo display was enough to leave some of the other England players seriously impressed.

What Henderson and Gordon said about Maddison

Finding England behind again at Wembley, Gareth Southgate looked to Maddison on the bench to provide them with a spark.

And that is exactly what the Tottenham man did as he provided a stoppage time assist for Jude Bellingham to see England draw the game.

In what has been an extremely underwhelming international break for the Three Lions, Maddison’s lack of game time will surely be questioned after providing them the cutting edge they needed.

It seems Jordan Henderson and Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon were also impressed with what they saw as they commented on his Instagram post following the game.

The Ajax midfielder commented with an applause emoji whilst Gordon reacted with a fire emoji.

What Ray Parlour said about Maddison vs Jack Grealish

Going into this summer’s Euros, Southgate clearly has a number of options who he could choose from in this position.

It is, of course, a good problem to have, however, Maddison showed just why he should be starting in his 26 minutes display.

Playing under Ange Postecoglou, Maddison enjoyed an impressive season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

But it seems TalkSPORT’s Ray Parlour would not be selecting Maddison for the starting XI if he was manager.

He claimed he would play Manchester City’s Jack Grealish ahead of him despite having had a season to forget at the Etihad.

He said: “On his day, on his day, you know who I’d go with… when he’s really at it, Grealish. I might be totally wrong there, but I think Grealish can play in that midfield, track back. What he’s done at Man City where Guardiola wants him to track back and he’s done that really well.”

“There’s so many options out there, you’ve got Maddison and people like that who could step in there as well.”

Maddison picked up the first Player of the Month award in the Premier League and now has four goals and eight assists to his name.

It is only injury which has hindered his run of form this season as he continues to find his best following a lengthy spell out.

And he done his chances of starting in the summer no harm with the display he put on for the crowd at Wembley on Tuesday night.
