The Lilywhites had gone 15 games in the Premier League without a win prior to his appointment; however, three wins, two draws and two defeats proved enough to keep them up.
Now, De Zerbi will get to start the season with a clean slate in the Premier League and will be hoping to get the club back to the heights where it once sat.
James Maddison hails Roberto De Zerbi’s impact at Tottenham
James Maddison believes that Roberto De Zerbi is genuinely passionate about Tottenham, and his work behind-the-scenes is why they stayed in the top flight.
The 54-year-old has shown incredible passion since arriving in North London and has managed to inspire this Spurs squad to pull away from the bottom three.
When asked about De Zerbi’s impact, Maddison told the media: “Yeah, because he’s so passionate. He believes… He’s been living at the training ground with the guys consistently.
“He’s there at 9pm with all his staff. They’ve got like the tactics board out. There are six of them, it’s 9pm, and we’ve already had four or five meetings. He’s just obsessed with football, and he is so passionate.
“When you feel the authenticity of someone who is passionate for Tottenham… Because I am, I love this club. I want it to be successful so bad, and when you see that man steering the ship, and he’s genuinely passionate about the club.

👀 What immediate changes need to be made…
“Without that appointment, disaster could have struck. But it didn’t, and he takes a lot of credit because of the work he has done behind-the-scenes and the training pitch.
“I thought we were brilliant today. In a big, pressurised game, we played with intensity, and that’s what we want to see from Tottenham.”
De Zerbi will now go away and reassess this Tottenham squad over the summer and look to ensure another 17th-place finish does not happen again.
