Ipswich Town have trolled James Maddison after they managed to defeat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 and secure their first Premier League win of the season.

Spurs somehow managed to miss out on the opportunity to go third in the Premier League after losing to Ipswich and instead remain all the way down in tenth.

The first-half goals of Sammie Szmodics and Liam Delap proved decisive as the away team held on for their first win in the Premier League since 2002.

After the game, the Tractor Boys took a cheap swipe at Maddison who used to play for their bitter rivals Norwich City and rivals fans love it.

James Maddison trolled by Ipswich

Maddison has not been having the best time at the moment as after losing his place in the England squad, he has now lost his spot in Ange Postecoglou’s lineup.

The midfielder was only brought on in the 84th for Brennan Johnson against Ipswich as Tottenham struggled to break down the visitors.

After the defeat, Ipswich trolled the former Norwich man with a picture of him tugging at Omari Hutchinson’s shirt and telling him it would be easier to buy it from their online store instead.

In the past, Maddison has not taken kindly to being at the centre of a joke, given his reaction to Neal Maupay’s darts celebration at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last season and Aston Villa calling Spurs’ stadium ‘Three Point Lane’.

The tweet trolling the 27-year-old went down very well on X getting over 75,000 likes showing just how unpopular Maddison and Spurs are.

Should Ange Postecoglou have brought Maddison on earlier?

It felt like Postecoglou got quite a lot wrong on Sunday afternoon and his decision-making over changes was certainly another aspect he failed in.

The first 45 minutes from Spurs was truly shocking and wholesale changes should have been made at the break with the team 2-0 down.

However, the Australian manager stuck with what he had and waited until the 66th minute to make his first sub of the afternoon. He decided to bring on Timo Werner for Pape Matar Sarr which felt like an odd move given the German’s form and how it forced Heung-min Son into a central role.

Maddison coming into the number ten role felt like a more logical move as regardless of how he has been playing, he has proven his ability to create chances and pick locks.
