‘It’s so strange’… Alasdair Gold shares what he finds very odd about Ange Postecoglou in press conferences

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has shown two different personalities to the media.

The Australian has announced himself in the Premier League as one of the more light-hearted individuals with the press.

However, it has now been suggested that Ange Postecoglou is a complete parallel to this when he is forced to make small talk.

Postecoglou the media joker

Since landing at Hotspur Way, the 58-year-old has come out with some responses to the media which has caused some laughs.

On the weekend, he was asked about Heung-min Son’s finger injury, to which he hit back with a reply about the South Korean being able to play without his fingers.

The players have clearly taken to Postecoglou too with a stark contrast between the Spurs under Antonio Conte to now.

But it’s unlikely the manager will be holding any small talk with them, as Alasdair Gold told his YouTube channel what the Australian is like away from the media questions: ‘He is a funny chap, Postecoglou. He’s just this weird paradox of a guy who is utterly awful in small talk situations, by his own admission. Will not sit and have a chat with anyone without being really awkward. You know, will famously only speak to people for a minute or so; so he can get the maximum impact in what he wants to say.

‘Stick him in front of a packed room and have him as the speaker, and suddenly he becomes a completely different person. It’s so strange.’

Bright future ahead

The start to life under the Australian was extremely exciting with a long unbeaten run being ended by a bizarre game against Chelsea.

Injuries and suspensions, undoubtedly, had a huge impact on what Postecoglou was doing in north London.

However, that is part and parcel of football and highlighted the depth Spurs were missing from their squad.

And that was seen in the January window as Daniel Levy sanctioned some positive moves to bolster Postecoglou’s options.

Champions League is still very much on the radar for next season, but a huge game against Aston Villa awaits Spurs this weekend.

And that will be a great opportunity to see what this side is really made of when the pressure is on at Villa Park.
