Tottenham Hotspur legend Jermain Defoe has admitted it would be a dream to one day succeed Ange Postecoglou and manage the club.

Spurs are flying under their Australian manager, however, the former striker is already dreaming about one day sitting in his seat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Defoe remains working at Hotspur Way as one of the youth coaches in the U18s side as he continues his development in the world of coaching.

Defoe dreams of managing Tottenham

The London-born striker spent a big chunk of his career in north London where he was able to rack up a whopping 140 goals across all competitions.

But across all of his Premier League moves, the 41-year-old was able to become the Premier League’s ninth highest scorer with 162.

However, now his boots are hung up, it is apparent a life in coaching is the path he wants to follow and his has some big aspirations.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Defoe provided an insight on what life at Hotspur Way has been like since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou: ‘Ange is refreshing because he is so normal. You see with the way he speaks in press conferences, and nothing is complicated in the way he plays. Getting the best out of your players is so important – and I think he has mastered that,’ he said.

He added: ‘It would be amazing to manage Tottenham. And the crazy thing about football is you never know. An opportunity could be around the corner.’

Postecoglou’s future at Tottenham

Although Defoe will have said this comment with a pinch of salt, there have actually been some reports suggesting Postecoglou could become a target for other Premier League teams.

The likes of Manchester City and Liverpool have both been linked with a possible swoop in the future.

However, it is hard to imagine the 58-year-old wanting to move anywhere else at the moment, no matter who that club may be.

Postecoglou is clearly building something here in north London and it is potentially coming along even quicker than he could have ever imagined.

A finish in the top four would be a huge achievement in just his first ever season as a Premier League manager considering the low expectations some may have had going into the season.

But it is apparent Postecoglou is keen to also develop the academy during his time at the club and having a club legend like Defoe earn his badges in the U18s is great to see.

Although he may seem a million miles away from managing the first team, just remember Ryan Mason’s path to the dugout.
