Dominic Solanke’s incredible pressing stat

Solanke tops the Premier League charts for most pressures in the final third this season with 240, but not only does he top it, he leads the way by 65 pressures.

In the win over Unai Emery’s men, he produced one of his best performances to date, as he was first for goals, shots, shots on target, touches in the opposition’s box and pressures.

The striker’s work rate for Postecoglou’s side has just been exceptional and had been overlooked by his lack of goal involvements.

However, the former Bournemouth man was finally given his flowers after he netted twice in the win over Villa, with his finish for his first being quite exceptional.

Solanke has made it clear that his target this term is to top his 19 goals from the last campaign and after eight appearances, he is one four goals.

What Ange Postecoglou said about Solanke’s performance

Postecoglou has hailed Solanke’s efforts in wins over Manchester City and Aston Villa with the forward completing yet another 90 minutes of football.

He looked dead on his feet after the Carabao Cup win against City and collapsed to his knees at the full-time whistle having worked so hard. The striker picked himself up and went again for another 90 minutes just a few days later against Villa.

Speaking to the media, Postecoglou said: “I just think the enormous effort he put in on Wednesday night to help us win a game of football, not just physically but mentally and his capacity to help the team in every way he can. To back that up today with such a massive effort again against a pretty difficult team to play against in that sense, it’s just unbelievable.

“Yeah, the goals are great and of course as a striker I am sure he loves the fact he can score a couple of goals, but even if he didn’t, again I can’t speak highly enough of what he is contributing to our team at the moment. And long may it continue because with him playing that way, it just makes us a better team.”
