Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has admitted Ange Postecoglou really impressed him during his time out injured.

It has not been an easy season for the Uruguayan who has recovered from an ACL injury and ankle ligament damage already.

Heading into the international break, Rodrigo Bentancur has provided an assessment of his season so far and what he’s made of Ange Postecoglou so far.

Bentancur impressed by Postecoglou

Having sustained his ACL injury last season away to Leicester City, Bentancur made his return earlier this season before being put out through a tackle by Matty Cash.

The 26-year-old is now working his way back to full fitness after almost a full calendar year on the sidelines.

Postecoglou now has all of his midfielders available for selection and is using Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr as Bentancur continues his recovery.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the former Juventus man admitted he was seriously impressed with Postecoglou’s attentiveness during his recovery and the football being played in his absence.

He said: “He [Postecoglou] was always very attentive during my time out, checking how I was feeling on a physical and personal level.”

“He showed me his support and, once I was back, I could really see that the way of playing he has implemented is incredible. I think, as a team, we have shown that throughout the season.”

Postecoglou setting the example

For the first time in a number of years, Spurs have a manager at the helm who the fans are proud to call to have represent their club.

Away from the action, Postecoglou has shown himself to be an excellent example of a manager with the way he has handled certain questions in the media.

Already this week, he has made sure fans from afar have not felt alienated from showing their support from outside of London.

And it seems he has the same level of care behind the scenes with his players.

Bentancur’s last year – football wise – has been nothing short of miserable as a result of his significant injury issues.

It would have been very easy for the Uruguayan to have felt left out from this new look Spurs side which is showing vast improvements.

But it is clear Postecoglou has checked in on his midfielder along the way.

Spurs fans may not see the best of Bentancur this season as he continues to return to full fitness, but this is a player who could have a huge role to play next season if Spurs secure Champions League football.
