Premier League winner Mark Schwarzer has been wowed by what he has seen from Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur.
It has been an impressive campaign so far for Spurs under Ange Postecoglou who was appointed in the summer.
It looks like the Australian has been around for years now as Spurs sit six points clear of Manchester United.
Bright start at Spurs
Tottenham are going into the business end of the campaign with a spot in the top four still very much on their radar.
The game on the weekend will be a big statement if Spurs are able to come away from Villa Park with three points.
And it seems the former Chelsea goalkeeper and fellow Australian, Schwarzer, has been impressed with what he’s seen from Postecoglou’s Spurs.
Speaking on the Football’s Greatest podcast, he said: ‘And look, he’s done an incredible job. Wherever he’s been, wherever you look at his history, his career thus far as a manager, and certainly club football. I mean national team when he was the U19s national coach didn’t quite go to plan in the early days.
‘But after that, when he was a Brisbane Roar, Melbourne Victory, then he went to national team and then he went to Yokohama and then Celtic and now where he is now. Everywhere he’s gone. He’s had success. Everywhere he’s gone he’s changed the style, he’s changed the mentality. He’s brought professionalism. he’s brought a different level of professionalism and expectation and demand on players. He leaves every single club in a better position to when he arrived. The curve is always upwards.’
Ange Postecoglou’s salary
The summer saw Daniel Levy forced to make some significant decisions at Hotspur Way.
One of the biggest was, without doubt, who would be the replacement for Antonio Conte. A decision it looks he has got absolutely right.
And the Australian has landed on a significantly smaller salary to the Italian he replaced.
It is believed Conte was earning a salary in the region of £15m-per-year (£288k-per-week).
In comparison, it is said Postecoglou is currently earning a third of that in north London with a deal worth £5m-per-year (£96k-per-week).
Considering Spurs finished outside of the European spots altogether whilst paying Conte that staggering salary, it seems they’ve landed a bargain in Postecoglou.
And if Spurs are to land a spot in the top four, it will be a move which Levy will look back on as one of his great success stories.
