One of Manchester United’s greatest players has recently made the revelation that he is a massive Tottenham Hotspur supporter and explained the reason why.

It comes as no surprise with the United star having previously explained that he is a Spurs supporter, despite not usually having many kind words to say about the club.

That player is Roy Keane, who on the latest episode of the Overlap, explained the reason why he grew up supporting the North London club.

Roy Keane explains why he’s ‘Spurs through and through’

Keane has revealed that he is ‘Spurs through and through’ because of Glenn Hoddle. The former Manchester United man has previously claimed on Sky Sports that he grew up supporting Tottenham.

Hoddle appeared on the latest episode of The Overlap and Keane was in awe of the Tottenham legend who he claims is his favourite player of all time.

Much to Hoddle’s surprise, the ex-United skipper said: “We have a proper player! Spurs, ey? Spurs through and through, YES!”, to which the former England star replied: “You support Spurs?”. Keane then told him: “Yes, because of you!”

For many Spurs fans, Hoddle is also the reason they grew up supporting the Lilywhites, with the 67-year-old being one of the greatest midfielders of his generation.

He was a huge success at Tottenham scoring 88 goals in 377 appearances and helping them to win two FA Cups and a UEFA Cup.

Glenn Hoddle explains Tottenham’s trophy drought

Hoddle, who is also a boyhood Spurs supporter, was asked about why he thought the club had gone so long without winning a trophy.

The former England manager claims it’s hard to pinpoint exactly why but he did make the claim that there is a ‘split in the generations’. Some of the older fanbase expect the club to uphold the tradition of playing great football, whilst younger fans are just desperate for success.

He told the Overlap: “I think there is a split in the generations at the moment, you still have the older generation that are living in those memories and they want a certain style of play and it’s always been that way.

“Now you have a younger generation that hasn’t seen us win anything for a long, long time. So there is a split in the camp. They want to go to school, college, or university saying they have won trophies like Arsenal and Chelsea.

“There is a split in the crowd that is going to help us in a way, the demands have got to be more that you are successful as a club and that means winning trophies.”
