Harry Kane has backed Eric Dier for an England call-up after the defender left Tottenham Hotspur in January.

Eric Dier is technically still a Tottenham player but his time in north London appears to have come to an end.

The 30-year-old made the switch to Bayern Munich on loan in January, where he has linked up with former Spurs star Harry Kane.

With Dier’s contract at Spurs set to expire this summer, the Englishman has likely already played his last game for the club.

But since leaving north London, Dier has enjoyed a promising start to life in Munich under Thomas Tuchel.

His long-standing teammate, Kane, believes he could be in with a shout of making Gareth Southgate’s England squad for this summer’s Euros.

Kane makes claim about Dier’s England chances

Speaking to The Sun, Kane admitted he’s ‘proud’ of Dier after a positive start to life in Germany.

“He has shown his quality with the ball and he has shown his quality as a leader,” Kane said.

“He has to keep doing what he is doing. Gareth Southgate knows what he is capable of and it will be pleasing for him to see another Englishman playing at the highest level. Hopefully, Eric can keep it up.

“Eric has been a big part of the national team in recent years. He missed out on the Euros squad but was with us at the World Cup.

“All Eric can do is perform the way he has. I am really proud of him.”

Not many Tottenham fans would have backed Dier to become a regular starter at Bayern after leaving Hotspur Way in January.

He had well and truly fallen out of favour under Ange Postecoglou, with the Aussie often preferring to play the likes of Ben Davies and Emerson Royal, two full-backs, over him in central defence.

But to Dier’s credit, he’s performed well in Germany and has capitalised on absences at centre-back at Bayern.

Whether or not it will be enough to earn him a place in the England squad remains to be seen. But we’re certainly happy to see Dier playing regularly once again after a difficult couple of years at Spurs.
