Tottenham Hotspur winger Timo Werner was left red-faced on Saturday after missing from a matter of yards out.

Ange Postecoglou’s men saw their Champions League push halted against Fulham in what was a dreadful showing.

One player who came out of the game with some serious questions to answer was Timo Werner who squandered a gold opportunity in front of goal.

Timo Werner’s miss vs Fulham

It really was a performance where there was so little positives to take from it that it almost has to be written off.

None of the Spurs players were really able to come away from the game with any credit to their name.

The £165k-per-week Werner certainly didn’t having come off from the bench as he did against Aston Villa just six days prior.

Unlike the game at Villa Park, the 28-year-old was unable to come off the bench and find the back of the net.

And speaking on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold has slammed the German for his miss from yards out. he said: “The irony is Werner was quite bright when he came on. I thought Werner really ran at them and did cause them problems. But that was a horrendous miss. All he had to do was almost push it in and he tried to place it in. It was pretty dreadful.”

Timo Werner’s Tottenham future

Having joined in the January transfer window on a short-term loan deal, Werner’s future hangs in the balance.

Tottenham hold the option to make his move a permanent one ahead of the summer window.

It is said the Lilywhites have until 14 June to make their mind up on what to do with the former Chelsea winger.

On the whole, it has been a fairly solid start to life at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for Werner having netted two goals and provided two assists.

But he really should have made it three goals on Saturday after being presented an open goal to poke the ball home.

Yet he managed to slice his shot which ended up going wide of the goal.

Spurs will have signed Werner knowing full well he was never going to score in the manner which Heung-min Son does, but he has to take those chances.

Tottenham have been known to score in quick succession during games this season. It would’ve been a big ask, but who knows what a goal could’ve done.

As long as Werner continues to squander big chances, his future at Spurs is surely being questioned.
