Guglielmo Vicario admits he’s not pleased with what he noticed in Tottenham’s draw with West Ham

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has admitted there was something he did not like about Spurs on Tuesday night.

A draw was probably the right result at the London Stadium with Ange Postecoglou’s side not exactly proving too much of a threat after opening the scoring.

The Lilywhites missed the opportunity to go above Aston Villa and leapfrog them into the Champions League spots.

However, it was not necessarily a performance which left goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario pleased come the full time whistle.

What Guglielmo Vicario said about Tottenham’s performance

Spurs could not have asked for a better start after scoring within the first four minutes of the game.

Timo Werner and Brennan Johnson teamed up again as the Welshman converted a teasing cross into the box by the 28-year-old.

But Tottenham never really progressed after scoring that goal with the majority of the possession not exactly being used to good effect.

The Hammers were able to get back on level terms through a corner which was so poorly defended by a number of Tottenham players.

Although the London Stadium has been a tough place to go over recent years, this felt like a huge opportunity to really put a marker on the top four race.

And after the game, Vicario admitted he thought his side lacked the belief to go on and win the game. He said: “I think it’s a fair result. What we showed on the pitch, but I think we had a lack of belief in winning the game today.

“For many reasons, maybe a little bit of tiredness at the end, but I think we have to believe that we can win the game. I think it was a good opportunity to win this game.”

Coming out of the game at the London Stadium, Spurs now sit two points behind Aston Villa having played the same number of games.

Unai Emery’s men will return to action tonight when they travel to the Etihad Stadium to play Manchester City.

Of course, that will provide Spurs with a game in hand, but Postecoglou’s men once again find themselves in need of a favour from someone else.

Since beating Villa last month, it feels like Spurs have really failed to capitalise on their opportunities to put real pressure on Villa by leapfrogging them in the table.

Both Spurs and Villa have to play the current top three before the end of the season, but Spurs also have some games which could cause a few headaches.

All three of Forest, Burnley and Sheffield United are fighting for their Premier League status which will likely provide a stern test for the Lilywhites.

But there were some positives to come out of the game on Tuesday night with the return of Micky van de Ven from injury.
