Tottenham loanee Luka Vuskovic had a mixed afternoon for Hamburg as they were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw with Augsburg at home.

Vuskovic is having an incredible season on loan at HSV, but his latest display serves as a reminder that he is still young and still has much to learn.

The defender actually played a key role in Hamburg’s goal as his tackle started the move, but in the first half, he struggled

The German media have now been assessing his latest performance for Hamburg and highlighted one worrying detail.

German media question Luka Vuskovic’s performance

The local media in Germany claim that too often during Hamburg versus Augsburg, Luka Vuskovic slowed down the play when in possession.

Writing about his performance, Abendblatt said: “The Croatian won the decisive challenge before the equaliser. However, he slowed down the pace too often with the ball, especially in the first half.”

No player had more touches than Vuskovic during the match as the Croatian international had 89 touches of the ball.

The Tottenham loanee also attempted the most passes with 69, and he finished the game with a passing accuracy of 86 per cent.

But Hamburg were far too passive in the first 45 minutes, with Augsburg taking the lead after 22 minutes, much to the frustration of the home support.

Vuskovic managed all those touches and passes, but was slammed for slowing play down too much, and this is an area of his game which still needs some work.

Next season, Roberto De Zerbi will want centre-backs who are very comfortable in possession, and the 19-year-old will need to hone this part of his game.

Vuskovic’s future for next season remains undecided, and it will be key to know which division Spurs are in before making a decision.

💰 If Bayern Munich come knocking for Luka Vuskovic this summer, WHAT FIGURE should Tottenham demand?

Many European clubs are queuing up to sign Vuskovic in the summer, so it will be interesting to see whether the Lilywhites can keep hold of him.

It is clear that Vuskovic would love to stay at HSV for another season and play alongside his brother, but that only seems likely if Tottenham were to be relegated.

One of Cristian Romero or Micky van de Ven is likely to leave Tottenham, and therefore, they will need the defender to step up.
