Gary Neville disagrees with Jamie Carragher on Tottenham season prediction with top four claim

The Premier League season is just around the corner and for Tottenham, it offers another chance to take a few steps forward under Ange Postecoglou.

The Lilywhites showed promising signs under the Spurs boss early on last campaign, starting well and appearing as part of the title picture.

As injuries hit, those hopes faded and a poor end to the year meant that Tottenham only finished fifth in the Premier League and had to settle for Europa League football.

After a summer of change in the transfer market, Spurs and Postecoglou are ready to go again, hopeful of a better finish this time around.

Plenty of predictions have already been made on where the North London outfit will finish this season, with some differing opinions.

Stick to Football Premier League predictions

One of those to make their predictions on the Premier League season is the crew of Stick To Football – which consists of Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Ian Wright, Jill Scott and Roy Keane.

While the group unanimously decided that Manchester City would win the title with Arsenal coming second, the top four race created more debate.

A vote saw Manchester United as one of the teams who would qualify for the Champions League, while the fourth spot was up for grabs.

Carragher and Wright both tipped Liverpool, before Neville replied: “I’m not sure [on Liverpool], I’m going to go Tottenham.”

That led to some disagreement from others on the table, with Carragher saying: “Is that the same Tottenham team who after they played at Old Trafford, you said they’d have more chance to challenge [Manchester] City more than Arsenal?”

“I think they fell away badly,” Neville responded, prompting laughs. “They fell away badly but I think they’ve got something.”

“Tottenham have got to improve defensively,” Carragher said before the discussion moved on, with Keane picking Aston Villa and Scott saying Liverpool to round out the top four picks.

Where will Tottenham finish in the Premier League this season?

So with another season nearly here, there will be renewed hopes about Tottenham’s chances for the next few months.

It appears as though a top-four challenge should be on the cards for Postecoglou and his squad, though that could change depending on the start they have.

On the one hand, the side are another year further along in the style of play, which should allow them to feel more natural in the system.

That said, there are a whole host of younger players such as Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall who will need time to adjust.

Add to that the challenge of Europa League football and the fixture congestion that creates and it could be an intense season for the Lilywhites.

In all, it seems to suggest a similar finish to last season could be on the cards, but they will be hoping for much more.
