Gabriel Agbonlahor says Ange Postecoglou should not be starting two players who he signed this season

TalkSPORT pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor has claimed Tottenham Hotspur shouldn’t be starting Brennan Johnson and Timo Werner.

Spurs were brought back down to earth on Saturday with a brutal 3-0 defeat on the road to Fulham.

Ange Postecoglou will now have two weeks to ponder on the defeat at Craven Cottage before Tottenham’s next Premier League game.

Johnson and Werner slammed not good enough

The fallout from the game on the banks of the Thames has seen Brennan Johnson and Timo Werner torn into.

None of the Spurs attackers came away from the game with much to look back on as the hosts dominated across the pitch.

It was only the Welshman who started out of the pair against the Cottagers, but both were branded not good enough to be starting by Agbonlahor.

Although it may have been a game for all to forget in navy for Spurs, the former Aston Villa man did not hold back when speaking on TalkSPORT about the duo. He said: “Spurs will make top five this season, could be in the Champions League and then in the summer they need to get some better players in. They need a top number nine, Son on the left, Kulusevski on the right. Werner and Johnson coming off the bench. They shouldn’t be starting games for Spurs in the Premier League, for me.”

Recruitment under Postecoglou

Since the arrival of Postecoglou last summer, one of the most satisfying changes has been the club’s recruitment.

Some really smart additions have been added to the squad since the Australian joined.

Perhaps the standout in the signings over Postecoglou’s first two windows has been Guglielmo Vicario from Emploi for £17m.

Replacing Hugo Lloris was a huge task for Spurs in the summer and they brought in a keeper who, it must be said, not many had heard of.

And yet, he has been perhaps Tottenham’s best player this term alongside Micky van de Ven and Heung-min Son.

However, it is still very early days in Johnson’s Spurs career to judge him. He has shown some impressive form of late, but Saturday was one to forget.

Werner, on the other hand, is a player who cannot afford to be missing open goals from a matter of yards out.

He came off the bench on Saturday and had a golden opportunity to put Spurs on the scoresheet.

The German’s time at Spurs is only temporary and he has to impress with Spurs holding an optional buy clause in his deal.
