Fabrizio Romano has given an update on Tottenham Hotspur’s search for a new no.9.
Writing in the Daily Briefing, Romano revealed that Tottenham have actually put their hunt on hold until the end of the current campaign.
Spurs had one of the best strikers in world football for almost ten years and fans will have been hopeful that Kane would end up as a one club man before he seemed to get twitchy as his he approached the end of his contract.
Despite Daniel Levy’s best efforts, Tottenham came to an agreement to sell Kane to Bayern Munich in a deal worth around £100 million this summer.

While Tottenham’s battle to keep hold of the England international had gone on for months, they didn’t have a replacement lined up when he eventually left in August.
Spurs did go onto sign Brennan Johnson, but they ended the transfer window without a new no.9 and it now appears they are content with their options in attack for now.
“It’s crucial to point out that Tottenham decided, along with manager Ange Postecoglou, to go for a different strategy,” Romano said.
“Because there was not really a proper no.9 available on the market for Tottenham, they decided to go for a different kind of player, as they did by signing Brennan Johnson. They are very happy with this, they feel they’ve signed an important player for the present and future.
“Tottenham are still not desperate to find a new no.9 on the market – they will wait to understand the situation on the market closer to next summer, around March, April or May, but for the moment it is completely quiet.”
Do Spurs need a new no.9 this season?
While it seemed extremely concerning before Harry Kane left, fans might not be as desperate to see the club bring in a direct replacement as they were before the season started.
Tottenham have actually performed brilliantly without the 30-year-old, Heung-min Son and James Maddison have formed a brilliant attacking partnership that Spurs were expected to lack when their captain left.

However, there is no ignoring the fact that Tottenham will definitely need to invest next summer. The North London club will hope to return to European football next year and will really struggle without a world class striker.
With a huge budget following Kane’s exit, there should be plenty of options for Ange Postecoglou to consider. The likes of Lautaro Martinez, Ivan Toney and Dusan Vlahovic could all do a job at Tottenham – though their position at the end of the current campaign will be vital to their pursuit.
