Tottenham Hotspur have had a busy summer in terms of transfers as they made numerous new signings and also offloaded plenty of players.

Spurs have signed Dominic Solanke, Archie Gray, Wilson Odobert and Yang Min-hyuk, while Lucas Bergvall has arrived from Djurgarden.

In addition, Tottenham have moved a number of players on, with the likes of Oliver Skipp, Emerson Royal, Joe Rodon and Giovani Lo Celso all being sold, plus a host of released players.

There have been plenty of loan moves too, with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Bryan Gil, Manor Solomon, Alejo Veliz, Ashley Phillips and Dane Scarlett leaving while still being on Spurs’ books.

Now, Darren Bent has suggested that a club that has signed a player from Tottenham this summer may have made the worst deal of the transfer window.

Darren Bent doesn’t Leicester should have signed Oliver Skipp

Bent, speaking on talkSPORT (3/9/24, 5:43pm), believes Leicester City may have made a mistake in signing Skipp from Spurs.

However, the pundit made it clear that he’s not saying the Tottenham academy graduate is a bad player.

Bent simply believes the Foxes should not have spent £20million on Skipp when their PSR situation wasn’t great to begin with.

“Oliver Skipp, and I feel so bad saying that,” said Bent when asked about the worst signing of the summer.

“Just think £20million, is that what Leicester needed? Oliver Skipp and Harry Winks. Harry Winks was good last year in the Championship, but…

“I almost feel like with Leicester, with the whole points deduction that could be coming because of Financial Fair Play, they almost needed that £20million.

“Where could we invest? I am not saying he is a bad player.”

Skipp needed move away from Tottenham

Skipp is a quality player who could do a job for Tottenham, but he simply wasn’t in line for much game time.

With that in mind, he had to move. Now, he’s getting regular starts at Leicester and he’ll hopefully make a real name for himself.

It remains to be seen whether the Foxes may have overreached in moving for Skipp, but he’s done quite well for them already.
