Cristian Romero has sent a message to Tottenham Hotspur fans on social media following Friday’s FA Cup exit.

Tottenham crashed out of the cup in the fourth round after a 1-0 defeat to current holders Manchester City.

Ange Postecoglou’s men were second best on the night, with Pep Guardiola finally picking up a win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs managed just one shot on goal in the full 90 minutes after a lacklustre attacking display.

It leaves Tottenham out of both domestic cup competitions, significantly hampering Postecoglou’s chances of ending their long wait for silverware this term.

Yet, Cristian Romero remains convinced that Spurs are on the right path to success under the Aussie boss.

Romero sends message to Tottenham fans

Romero took to X on Sunday night and posted a heartfelt message to Tottenham supporters.

He wrote: “A defeat that hurts but that forces us to get up as always and keep trying, this is what it is all about.

“I have no doubt that we are finally all going in the right direction together. Let’s keep it up and thank you for always supporting us. We will come back stronger.“

Romero is currently captaining the Tottenham side in the absence of Heung-Min Son, who’s competing in the Asian Cup with South Korea.

The Argentine has stepped up as a real leader this term and has deputised well in Son’s absence.

There’s no doubt that Spurs missed Son’s threat in the final third on Friday though and the Spurs skipper boasts an exceptional record against City.

But Tottenham were boosted by the return of vice-captain James Maddison, who got 17 minutes under his belt.

Spurs fans will understandably be frustrated after their last realistic chance of silverware this term has vanished. But Postecoglou’s men were simply beaten by the better team on the day.

Tottenham have been guilty of underestimating sides in the FA Cup in recent years but Postecoglou named a full-strength XI on Friday.

While it wasn’t the result everyone was hoping for, it’s clear we’re headed in the right direction under Postecoglou and an early cup exit at the hands of City shouldn’t discourage supporters.
