Chris Sutton names the ‘phenomenal’ Tottenham player ‘he would not want to face’

Tottenham Hotspur are showing signs of finally starting to click under Ange Postecoglou following a second successive win in the Premier League.

Spurs ran riot at Old Trafford as they defeated Manchester United 3-0 with goals from Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke.

Postecoglou’s team enjoyed total dominance against the Red Devils as they produced one of their best performances of the season.

Many of their individuals are starting to produce their best football and Chris Sutton has named the one player who he would least like to face.

Sutton would not want to face Cristian Romero

Sutton has named Cristain Romero as a player he ‘wouldn’t want to go up against’ due to his aggrieve defensive approach.

The former Premier League striker claims the Argentine is ‘phenomenal’ and is just as important to Tottenham as Micky van de Ven.

Sutton told The Monday Night Club: “Son was a big blow to Tottenham missing him, but I actually think they are equal, Romero and Van de Ven, Van de Ven probably a bit quicker, but you wouldn’t want to go up against Romero.

“He’s super aggressive isn’t he, he’s an absolute animal at times the way he uses his body and attacks the ball – I think he’s phenomenal.”

Are Van de Ven and Romero equal to Saliba and Gabriel?

The BBC Sport pundit also reckons that Tottenham’s centre-back duo are much closer to Arsenal’s partnership of Gabriel and William Saliba than they are given credit for.

He believes that Van de Ven and Romero are having to deal with far more pressure each game than any other defensive duo due to the way Tottenham play.

Sutton claimed: “We talked about Saliba and Gabriel being the best defensive partnership in the Premier League and I’m not going to argue that.

“But they always have a full-back or both full-backs next to them, whereas when you look at Romero and Van de Ven and the way they are under pressure every game they play in as a consequence of the style Tottenham play.

“There’s a strong argument that those two are under more pressure than any partnership in the Premiership. Postecoglou has faith that they have a lot, they are quick, aggressive, good in one vs one situation.”
