Cesc Fabregas reveals what he does not like about what Ange Postecoglou’s doing at Tottenham

Former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has admitted he does not like the way Tottenham Hotspur defend.

It has been all change in north London this season following the appointment of Ange Postecoglou last summer.

Spurs sit in a solid position to land a spot in the top four ahead of next season, but it seems not everyone has been left impressed.

The Lilywhites were able to dispatch their closest top four rivals, Aston Villa, on the weekend in an emphatic 4-0 victory.

However, that was their first clean sheet in the Premier League since December with their defence proving vulnerable at times.

Spurs have conceded the fourth-fewest number of goals in the league this season, but clean sheets have been hard to come by.

Speaking on the Planet Premier League podcast, Fabregas admitted there is something he just doesn’t like about Postecoglou’s style. He spoke about Tottenham’s high line: “It is brave and you need to trust your players a lot. But for me you are not under control because you are basically reacting, you are not proactive.You are reacting to their movements, you are reacting to whatever the striker wants to do.”

Tottenham’s defensive record

There is probably a number of Spurs fans who may agree with some of what Fabregas has said.

Tottenham’s defensive record has not been good enough in recent months with just the one clean sheet kept since the middle of December in the league.

However, this isn’t a Spurs side which has leaked goals hugely with their goals conceded record not too bad.

Of course, as the players adapt and the squad have time to develop under Postecoglou’s style, that is something which will likely be resolved.

Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have already looked like a partnership which could become one of the best across Europe.

So there will be a lot of hope that Spurs will iron out those creases before too long.

But overall, what we have seen from Spurs this season has been a much improved product on recent years gone by.

Tottenham had a much different defensive style under Antonio Conte and it left fans frustrated with the brand of football they were watching.

Considering this is still Postecoglou’s first season, things aren’t going badly at all.
