Tottenham Hotspur defender Ashley Phillips has provided some insight on what he is hoping for following his loan spell away.
The young centre-back joined Plymouth Argyle in the January window to pick up some further experience in the men’s game.
Ange Postecoglou already has some quality options at the back and could potentially see more arrive in the summer.
But it seems the young Englishman will be returning to Hotspur Way full of confidence.
What Ashley Phillips has said about returning to Tottenham
Having joined the Pilgrims earlier in the year, Phillips has become a regular at the back for the Championship side.
And it is apparent he has impressed the Plymouth fans who have praised him massively on social media.
The 18-year-old has already tallied up 12 appearances in the Championship and two in the FA Cup.
Speaking to The Athletic about his experience on loan, Phillips has admitted he is wanting to return to Spurs and start games.
He said: “I found the transition [from Blackburn to Spurs] hard because it’s a completely different game to the Championship technically and physically.”
“I hope from this loan that I can gain trust from the Spurs coaches so I can push to be starting now and again, maybe in cup competitions.”

What Phillips said about Romero and Van de Ven
Since leaving, Spurs have added to their squad in defence with the signing of Radu Dragusin from Genoa.
However, Phillips did comment on working alongside the likes of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven in the first-half of the season.
What lies ahead for Phillips will be interesting as The Spurs News understand Tottenham are eyeing a number of centre-backs already ahead of the summer.
But it seems he was looking to learn from the two centre-back who were ahead of him at the time in Romero and Van de Ven.
Phillips said: “At Spurs, I had Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, and I’ve taken pieces from them and tried to integrate it into my game.”
What is encouraging for Spurs fans is to hear how confident Phillips is in his own ability on the back of this impressive loan spell.
But as Spurs eye a spot in next season’s Champions League, there has to be questions over whether it may too big of a jump for him to make just yet.
There’s no doubt he looks a real talent for the long-term, but he is yet to make a Premier League start yet and Tottenham’s injury record would suggest he could need to step up if he was in the squad.
Postecoglou has already admitted he will be looking to add another centre-back this summer, what that means for Phillips has to be questioned.
