Ange Postecoglou has raved about Tottenham Hotspur midfielder James Maddison; labelling him an ‘outstanding’ player.

Postecoglou has been speaking on talkSPORT this morning and was asked about Maddison’s impact at Tottenham so far.

Maddison was snapped up for a fee worth around £40 million over the summer as he made the switch to North London from Leicester City.

The 26-year-old was expected to hit the ground running after impressing for Leicester over the past few seasons. But he has slotted in seamlessly under Postecoglou.

Indeed, the England international has already netted twice and provided two assists in just four Premier League appearances for Spurs.

And Postecoglou has admitted he is delighted with the club’s decision to back him early on by landing Maddison.

Postecoglou on Maddison

Speaking on talkSPORT, Postecoglou admitted he’s delighted with Maddison’s impact at Tottenham so far, but feels there is more to come from the midfielder.

“Oh absolutely,” he said. “When you talk about support I’ve had since I got the role, we signed James pretty early on in the piece, which is great for me.

“We had competition from other clubs for him. The club backed me early on to bring him in.

“I think what you’ve seen so far is we’ve gained a player with outstanding ability, but also somebody who’s very, very driven to bring success to this football club.

“And when you get both – sometimes you get players at different stages of their careers – but for James, and for the club, I think it’s perfect timing because he’s coming to make an impact.

“Not just for himself individually, because he’s already done that as an individual, he wants to make an impact for this football club.”

Maddison has transformed Tottenham’s midfield since arriving over the summer and has already struck up brilliant relationships with the likes of Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr.

The England star has provided some much-needed creativity in the middle of the park and fits Postecoglou’s system perfectly.
