Tottenham full-back Ryan Sessegnon appears to have suffered yet another setback in his recovery from injury.

The 23-year-old has been plagued with injury issues since making the switch to Hotspur Way as a promising young player from Fulham for roughly £25million. Nine separate injury problems have impacted Sessegnon in just under five-years with Tottenham.

The most recent of those issues has come in the form of a hamstring problem, which later required surgery. That put Sessegnon out of action for nearly a full year, with a return being made in January during the FA Cup clash with Burnley.

However, despite only making a short cameo at the end of the game, Ange Postecoglou later confirmed that there was a setback for Sessegnon, putting him on the sidelines once more.

Ryan Sessegnon injury latest

According to a report from Football London, Sessegnon suffered a setback when regaining fitness with the under-21s. The report states: “Then on Saturday he [Sessegnon] returned again to turn out for Tottenham’s Under-21s against West Ham at Hotspur Way and managed just 33 minutes before falling to the ground in frustration after awkwardly hitting a cross into the box.

“He lay there on the turf for a while, getting attention from the physios before moving to the side of the pitch. It soon became clear that the young full-back could not walk back into the building unaided and crutches emerged for him to get himself inside the training complex as half-time came.”

Ryan Sessegnon’s Tottenham future

The latest injury concern will no doubt leave questions surrounding the future of Sessegnon at Tottenham. With just over one-year remaining on his contract with Spurs, it appears as though time is running out to burst into Postecoglou’s plans.

It leads onto questioning his future, however the more immediate priority will be making a return to fitness before a run of consistent playing time. Whether he manages that is uncertain, however it’s clear that the once promising star is now in a race against time and his own body.
