Amanda Staveley latest as Tottenham Hotspur investment talks now ‘advanced’ after Newcastle United exit

Tottenham Hotspur fans have been divided on Daniel Levy over the years and new investment could soon arrive at the club.

Daniel Levy and ENIC have now been in charge of Tottenham Hotspur for more than 20 years and supporters remain split on their tenure.

Some appreciate Tottenham’s measured financial approach and have seen the opening of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – as well as a Champions League final appearance.

Others believe that Levy and ENIC haven’t shown enough ambition and feel that the five years since that Champions League final run have been somewhat wasted.

Tottenham are now though to be valued at around £3.75bn, an enormous price tag which isn’t exactly easy to meet.

That price tag is more than the price Chelsea were sold for in 2022 and more than 10 times the value Mike Ashley sold Newcastle United for in 2021.

Latest on Amanda Staveley’s Tottenham Hotspur investment

One key part of Newcastle’s Saudi Arabian takeover was Amanda Staveley.

Staveley facilitated the Public Investment Fund’s purchase of the Magpies having failed with a takeover bid of her own in 2017.

Staveley has a strong connection to investors in the Middle East and she has recently taken an interest in Tottenham.

The Mirror now claim that Staveley is ready to invest in Tottenham with ‘advanced talks’ now underway.

The report adds that Staveley was a guest at Tottenham’s win over Brentford last weekend.

One source claimed that Staveley is ‘serious’ about investing in Tottenham and is hopeful of getting a deal done within weeks.

Staveley’s financial backing will be aided by Middle Eastern cash again with her and husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi ready to buy shares from Joe Lewis.

Levy has opened the door for investment in recent days, admitting that Spurs want a ‘bigger capital base’ – and Staveley looks to be the most likely candidate right now.

Why did Staveley leave Newcastle?

Staveley left her position with Newcastle over the summer and is now looking for her next footballing opportunity.

Tottenham appear to be her priority but some may wonder just why she left Newcastle in the first place.

Staveley told The Athletic in July that there was no falling out at St James’ Park and she simply felt that the time was right to go.

Having brought in a number of specialists into key roles, Staveley believed that her job was done with Newcastle taking big steps forward.

“As we grew, we brought in an executive team and Darren Eales (the chief executive), but we were very much at the coalface because Newcastle was still under-resourced. As the club continues to expand it needs a management team that can be left to do their jobs. I’ve read on social media that there’s been some kind of fallout but that’s rubbish. I love my colleagues. It just became unfair for us to constantly be there,” said Staveley.

Few Newcastle fans will have a bad word to say about Staveley and her impact at the club having played a key role in their rise – and she may well choose Tottenham as her next step.
