Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman has admitted he has been seriously impressed by Guglielmo Vicario.

Spurs saw a major change between the sticks over the summer with Hugo Lloris’ time as the first choice coming to an end.

Ange Postecoglou’s arrival saw Guglielmo Vicario brought in from Empoli and Spurs have not looked back since.

Whiteman hails Guglielmo Vicario

It has been a stunning start to life in north London for the Italian shotstopper who had no played outside of his homeland before this season.

Vicario took no time to be thrown into the starting XI by Postecoglou with the 27-year-old having already racked up 29 appearances for Spurs across all competitions.

And it seems it is not just on the pitch where he is impressing with his fellow goalkeeper, Whiteman, praising him for his efforts at Hotspur Way.

Speaking on the Off The Shelf podcast, Whiteman said: “Oh, it’s incredible and I feel like with Vic, of course like people see, like match days and fans will see the game. Vic’s an incredible professional. And people at the training ground will know that.

“You know, he’s here and he’s always trying to do everything he can to improve. So like, I mean I’m not surprised at all [how good he’s been]. It’s like in training you see him and you know everything he’s done on the match day, he does here.”

Signing of the summer

It only goes to show how good Tottenham’s recruitment has been of late that an argument could be made for Vicario not being the signing of the summer.

Finding a goalkeeper to come in an succeed Lloris was never going to be an easy task, but that is exactly what Spurs have done.

In the £75k-per-week Italian, they look to have a goalkeeper who will be a solid addition for many years to come.

However, there are a number of players who could also be awarded with the signing of the summer title.

Micky van de Ven has been absolutely sensational since signing from Wolfsburg.

The Dutchman has already broken records in the Premier League having been recorded as its fastest ever player.

However, he has had injury issues which may pull him out of the running. An encouraging update has emerged on the issue he sustained against Aston Villa.

And then there is the likes of James Maddison who has also had a solid season and even Brennan Johnson who is looking like a star for the future.

It is signings like this which make it very easy for fans to put their faith in what Postecoglou is doing at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
