Alasdair Gold now explains why Jermain Defoe wouldn’t be able to manage Tottenham

Igor Tudor is already fighting for his position as Tottenham head coach after starting his tenure with three consecutive Premier League defeats.

Any new manager who comes in at this stage would likely act as an interim, and a few names have started to do the rounds in the media.

YES or NO: Would you take Tim Sherwood back at Tottenham until the end of the season?

Teddy Sheringham has backed Harry Redknapp to do a short-term job in North London, whilst Robbie Keane and Glenn Hoddle would both likely jump at the chance to manage the club.

Jermain Defoe has also been mentioned, but appointing him at this stage might not be possible.

Jermain Defoe wouldn’t be able to manage Tottenham

Although the conception might be that Defoe couldn’t possibly be any worse than Tudor, he won’t be able to actually become the manager of his own accord.

Tottenham expert Alasdair Gold has explained that, due to an issue with his coaching badges, the former striker would have to be on a coaching team rather than taking on the job himself.

He said on YouTube: “Jermain Defoe. I think Jermain Defoe, from what I understand, I’ve spoken to a couple of people.

“I don’t think he’s actually started his pro license work yet. So I don’t even know, I think he would have to be on a coaching staff if that was possible.”

Defoe and Keane would be ideal combination

Keane has earned his managerial stripes with a number of clubs and he’s taken Ferencvaros to the last 16 of the Europa League this season.

Given that the two players operated alongside each other for Tottenham, perhaps there’s an argument that in tandem they could do a job for Spurs.

Both ex-players understand what it means to wear the shirt with pride and that would likely resonate better with the players more than anything Tudor appears to be doing right now.

Appointing Defoe in any capacity would be risky given his lack of any real experience on the coaching scene but having him around the place might just give the whole club a bit of a lift.
