Former Wales and Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey has sung the praises of former Tottenham icon Gareth Bale.

When it comes to the esteemed list of Tottenham legends, Gareth Bale often gets overlooked by sections of supporters having spent the prime of his career away from north London.

The Welshman’s impact in N17 however should not be underestimated.

Whether it be that famous night against Inter Milan or his iconic screamer against West Ham – Bale undoubtedly goes down in history as not only one of Tottenham’s greatest players but one of the best British players in history.

One former star who echoes those thoughts is Bale’s former Wales teammate Ramsey.

Aaron Ramsey hails former Spurs man Gareth Bale

Whilst appearing on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Ramsey was tasked with creating an XI of the best players he played with.

The star-studded XI included icons such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Gianluigi Buffon, with Ramsey finding a place for Bale on the right flank alongside Mesut Ozil.

When questioned on why he included the former Tottenham star, Ramsey was full of praise for his former international teammate.

“Amazing, amazing footballer – on his day, when he was in the Premier League. The athleticism, the speed, and the power he had, nobody could live with that. The way he used to just power past players and rifle balls into the top corner – it was just breathtaking at times.

“I obviously had a great relationship with him on the field for Wales and was lucky enough to spend so many memorable moments with him.”

Jermain Defoe once labelled Bale as ‘unbelievable’

When you are as good as Bale, it would ultimately come as no surprise to see your former teammates sing your praises.

Ex-Tottenham defender Kyle Walker once described Bale as ‘incredible’, whilst Ledley King admitted he couldn’t believe how good Bale become at Spurs.

Former striker Jermain Defoe is another of Bale’s ex-teammates who has come out publicly to highlight the talents of the five-time Champions League winner.

Speaking on the Peter Crouch Podcast in 2022, Defoe claimed the Welshman had “unbelievable” physical attributes, particularly his pace.

“He would just knock it past people and start running, I had never seen anything like that before, no skills. In the modern game, to do that to top center-halves when everyone is fit and quick and everyone is athletes. You’re doing this in the Champions League, it’s unbelievable.”
