Tottenham Hotspur’s new rock at the back Micky van de Ven was rewarded for his superb start to the season with an international debut for the Netherlands.
Tottenham’s £34 million summer signing came off the bench in the 80th minute, replacing Manchester City’s Nathan Ake.
It was a game that unfortunately ended in defeat for Micky on Friday the 13th of October, as they got beta 2-1 thanks to a Kylian Mbappe double.
However, the Dutch actually won with the Spurs star on the pitch, following Quilindschy Hartman’s strike. van de Ven also had a notable moment, which could put him in contention to start the next international game.
Van de Ven impressed despite a short cameo
Although only on the pitch for a brief 10 minutes, there was one moment that certainly reflected the season he’s having at Tottenham Hotspur.
As we all know, the Dutchman possesses lightning-quick speed. So when a France counterattack led by Malo Gusto happened, van de Ven outpaced and outmuscled the new Chelsea acquisition like he wasn’t even there.
“I think there are a lot of great things in the future,” Nathan Aké, the man Micky replaced, told Voetbalpraat after the game.
The Dutch do have a young side, with van de Ven arguably the brightest spark of the lot.
Could he feature more in the next game?
The Netherlands take on Greece tonight in what is a crucial game.
The Dutch are currently third, three points behind second-placed Greece with a game in hand.
Van de Ven could feature, most likely coming in for Lutsharel Geertruida. But after just 10 minutes in a Le Oranje shit, don’t hold your breath.
