Journalist Alasdair Gold has shared what Cristian Romero did in front of the Tottenham Hotspur away end after Spurs thrashed Burnley on Saturday.

Gold has been speaking in his latest YouTube video and claims Romero kissed the captain’s armband in front of the away fans after the full-time whistle.

Spurs were in free-flowing attacking form on Saturday as they put on a five-star display at Turf Moor.

Tottenham skipper Son Heung-min stole the show with a brilliant hat-trick, while his vice-captains James Maddison and Cristian Romero both netted with brilliant long-range efforts.

It was refreshing to see Tottenham playing on the front foot away from home once again and the early days of Ange Postecoglou’s reign have been encouraging to say the least.

The Aussie boss decided to form a new leadership group at Spurs in the form of Son, Maddison and Romero.

And it seems that Romero has taken huge pride in his new role as vice-captain at Tottenham.

What Romero did in front of the away end at Turf Moor

Gold claims Romero, Son and Maddison all marched the Tottenham squad over to the away end after Saturday’s win at Turf Moor.

Romero finished the game as captain after both Son and Maddison had been taken off by Postecoglou.

And the Argentine defender was spotted kissing the captain’s armband in front of the away end.

“Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever seen three human beings take to a new role so enthusiastically,” Gold said. “The three of them were leading the players over to the fans. It was those three.

“Romero had the armband because Sonny and Maddison had both gone off. So Romero had the armband. And there was a really nice moment where he kissed the armband in front of the fans.

“It was almost not for the fans. He was having a hug and a chat with Sonny, and it was while he was chatting to him that he kissed it.

“It wasn’t as if he was doing it in front of the fans for show, it was almost this little gesture that he loved having that armband on.”

Romero has taken to his new role brilliantly and he seems to have benefited from the extra responsibility.

Indeed, the defender has looked more composed alongside Micky van de Ven and is establishing himself as a real leader at Tottenham.

We’ve all been fully aware of Romero’s potential ever since he joined the club back in 2021. But you get the feeling that he may have just found the right manager to help him play his best football in a Spurs shirt.
