The PGMOL have been no stranger to criticism in recent times, and that was no different in Tottenham’s game with Chelsea.
With the game eagerly poised at 2-1, Tottenham’s Premier League clash with Chelsea would be thrown into disrepute in the 33rd minute when Moises Caicedo flew into a challenge on Pape Matar Sarr.
Caicedo would catch the Tottenham man studs up on the shin – in a type of challenge that would normally pique the interest of VAR.
The referees in Stockley Park, however, would not take action and let the challenge slide – leaving fans questioning the reasoning behind the decision.

VAR reveals reason why Moises Caicedo did not receive red card
With many fans left baffled at the decision, VAR soon provided viewers with a reason why Caicedo escaped a red card.
Speaking on SkySports commentary, Peter Drury relayed the reasoning behind the decision – revealing VAR deemed the challenge as ‘not excessive force.’
With Sarr himself having received a yellow card for a very soft challenge on Marc Cucarella, Ange Postecoglou and co may see themselves as unlucky in this instance.
Jamie Carragher slams VAR decision
Commentating alongside Drury on Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher honed in on the decision.
While watching a replay of the challenge, the former Liverpool man was convinced Caicedo would see red.
“He’s right over the ball. Ooh, he’s off. He’s got a red card,” said Carragher.
When it was revealed, though, that VAR would not be awarding a red card, the SkySports pundit revealed his surprise at the decision.
“That is unbelievable.”
