Oliver last officiated a game between these two sides in 2023, and there was a contentious call he made which was in favour of Tottenham.
He denied Manchester United what seemed to be a clear penalty as Alejandro Garnacho’s shot struck the outstretched arm of Cristian Romero.
Usually, on-field referees do not point to the spot if the hands are close to the body or in a natural position, but this was neither of those.
Even the staunchest of Spurs fans would not have protested had Oliver decided to penalise Romero for a handball.
Thomas Frank will be hoping that the referee will once again favour the team in white.
It remains to be seen what Frank’s tactical plan is for this game, as he is under pressure to deliver wins in the Premier League.
