Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has praised Tottenham Hotspur following today’s Premier League clash at Anfield.
Tottenham failed to capitalise on Aston Villa’s defeat at Brighton on Sunday afternoon as they suffered a 4-2 defeat at Liverpool.
A poor opening 60 minutes led to Ange Postecoglou’s men trailing 4-0 in Merseyside following goals from Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, Cody Gakpo and Harvey Elliott.
Postecoglou turned to his bench just minutes after Elliott added Liverpool’s fourth, leading to a much improved 30 minutes for Spurs.
Richarlison produced a well-taken finish after a nicely worked move down the right-hand side. Heung-Min Son grabbed another back in the 77th minute and despite a strong final 10 minutes, it was too late in the day from Tottenham’s point of view.
But Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp had some praise for Tottenham after the game.

Klopp makes Tottenham claim after Anfield defeat
Speaking to Sky Sports after his side’s 4-2 victory at Anfield, Klopp claimed Spurs showed how good they could be under Postecoglou.
“We are outstanding until we are not,” the Reds boss said. “It was a really good game. Tottenham can put pressure on Aston Villa again for the Champions League.
“In high-performance things, you need a spark. I would say three points is enough and the boys thought that.
“Anfield was a special place today. We were 4-0 up, I made the changes and we lost organisation. Tottenham showed how good they could be. I was happy with the performance.
“We were good in pretty much all areas offensively. The passes were good. So many things were good. We stayed calm. As long as they don’t break the lines then it’s fine, let them pass. I liked our game a lot. The goals were outstanding.”
Klopp is certainly a manager who’s aware of the job Postecoglou faces at Tottenham.
The German took over at Anfield back in October 2015 with a massive rebuilding task at hand. It’s fair to say that with time and patience, Klopp has delivered off the back of an eighth place in his debut campaign.

Tottenham’s defeat at Liverpool in numbers
The stats reflect what was a dominant performance from Liverpool today. Spurs created just 1.16 xG in comparison to Liverpool’s 3.22.
According to Sofascore, Tottenham had 54 per cent of the ball but up until the hour mark, they had failed to do anything worthwhile with it.
Postecoglou’s side also gave away 25 shots on the day and managed 11 of their own attempts on Alisson Becker’s goal.
There were always going to be bumps in the road during the Postecoglou era and this is undoubtedly his worst spell since joining from Celtic over the summer.
But we’ve seen glimpses of what this team could become under the Aussie and as Klopp has shown at Liverpool, it takes time for managers to truly stamp their mark on a squad.
