Sam Allardyce has delivered his verdict on the incident involving Randal Kolo Muani as Tottenham hosted Arsenal in the Premier League.
Tottenham lost the game 4-1, and plenty was discussed in the aftermath of the game, including an alleged push on Arsenal defender Gabriel.
The incident occurred when the Gunners were 2-1 up, and the hosts still had a chance to get something out of the game.
How many points will Tottenham take from their next four Premier League matches?
Sam Allardyce admits Tottenham’s second goal should have stood
Allardyce, with his years of experience as a Premier League manager, has seen a number of shocking decisions being made.
For most of his tenure as a manager, VAR was not even in place, so the referee’s word was the final one.
There was no way for the officials to change their minds after looking at any footage of the incident, but that is not the case today.
Having looked at Kolo Muani and Gabriel in contact with each other, and the goal being disallowed for a foul, Big Sam believes that it was an “outrageous” decision.
In his view, the Arsenal defender theatrically sent himself to the ground in the hopes of winning a free kick, and instead of having the foul given his way, he should have been shown a yellow card.
Kolo Muani’s second goal against Arsenal was disallowed…
What did YOU make of this decision? 🤔
He said on No Tippy Tappy Football: “The only way to rectify it for now is for injured players fit, that’s the most important.
“And not to have a massive error by the referee on the goal that Tottenham got disallowed. Now Tottenham might not have gone on to get any points out of the game, but you can’t say that.
“This decision, Gabriel, should have been booked for feigning a free kick. How often do we see balls into the box from a corner, and there is pushing, shoving, grappling, almost grievous bodily harm, and the referee runs off and says goal?
“Tottenham can’t afford any bad decisions, and that was outrageously bad, a really, really poor decision from the referee and an even poorer decision from VAR.”
What did Igor Tudor learn from his first Spurs game in charge
While it was a game against the league leaders, Igor Tudor would have learnt a lot about the mentality of the Spurs players.
It was a North London derby, the crowd was up for it, and there was a new manager on the touchline – a perfect recipe for the players to fight for the badge and show the fans that they still care.
However, they got completely played out of the park and did not seem to show any fight.
Tudor knows that he may need to be harsh with his team selection and also behind the scenes in order to instil discipline in a dressing room that has lacked it for years.
