Jamie Carragher has delivered his verdict on Yves Bissouma’s display for Tottenham Hotspur against Manchester United.

Carragher spoke on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football (21/8 7:36pm) and described Bissouma’s performance on Saturday as ‘outstanding’.

Spurs picked up a statement 2-0 win over United as Ange Postecoglou got off to a flyer on his home debut.

Pape Matar Sarr was handed his first start of the season and bagged his first goal for the club to help Spurs on their way to a huge win.

Postecoglou’s midfield three of James Maddison, Sarr and Bissouma were the standout performers on the day.

Bissouma picked up his second Player of the Match award in as many games as he continued his encouraging start to life under Postecoglou.

And it’s fair to say that Carragher was impressed with the Mali international’s display.

Carragher on Bissouma

Speaking on MNF, Carragher singled out Bissouma for praise and claimed he was the best midfielder on the pitch on Saturday evening.

“The best midfield player on the pitch was Bissouma,” he said. “He was outstanding.”

Bissouma endured a difficult debut campaign at Tottenham last time out after making the £25 million switch from Brighton.

The 26-year-old struggled to adjust to Antonio Conte’s system and also wasn’t helped by injury problems. But the midfielder appears to have recaptured the form that earned him a move to Tottenham in the first place.

The Spurs News View

Bissouma has arguably been Tottenham’s best player so far this season and while it’s still early days, he looks set to become a key man under Postecoglou.

It makes you wonder why he was snubbed last season under Conte, especially as Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp struggled during the second-half of the campaign.
