Heung-min Son cut a frustrated figure in Tottenham Hotspur’s draw at home to Fulham as the forward had a disappointing afternoon.

Spurs limped to a 1-1 draw at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to 10-man Fulham as injuries took their toll on Ange Postecoglou’s team who looked well off the pace. The Lilywhites looked sluggish for 90 minutes as they failed to win yet again following a midweek Europa League match.

The South Korean struggled to make his mark on the game as he replaced Dominic Solanke up front. After the match, the media were all in agreement about Son’s display in North London.

Heung-min Son’s struggles vs Fulham

Heung-min Son’s performance against Fulham has seen him criticised by the media as the captain failed to step up when the team needed him. Postecoglou was missing several key forwards and was in desperate need of the 32-year-old being at his best.

However, the club captain struggled to deliver in the match as he managed just one attempted on-goal in 90 minutes. Sonny’s displays have been well below par this season so far and maybe he is not fully over his injury issues yet.

The forward’s performance against Fulham showed why Tottenham are unwilling to offer Son a new contract as he looks just a shadow of his former self.

The media slam Heung-min Son’s display vs Fulham

Son was far from his top form on a miserable evening in the capital as he failed to threaten Bernd Leno’s goal and the media did not hold back in their ratings of his performance.

The Daily Express gave him a 6/10 and wrote: “Son replaced Solanke as the number nine but aside from having a shot well saved from Bernd Leno inside 60 seconds, the club captain struggled to have a significant impact on the game. He is much better on the left.”

The Evening Standard also gave him 6/10: “A quiet display from the South Korean, who had to play up front due to Dominic Solanke’s absence because of illness.”

Football.London were harsh with their rating, giving him just a 4/10: “Had a couple of early chances, both stopped by Leno, but contributed very little after that. Really looked on the fringes of the game. A very quiet day for the captain when he needed to grab the game by the scruff of the neck.”
