Dejan Kulusevski says Tottenham simply weren’t ‘good enough’ in one key area against Wolves

Dejan Kulusevski feels Tottenham Hotspur’s defending simply wasn’t ‘good enough’ against Wolves yesterday.

Spurs fell to a 2-1 defeat to Gary O’Neil’s men after a lacklustre display in north London. Ange Postecoglou’s men have picked up a bad habit of starting games slowly in recent weeks and yesterday was no different.

Despite dominating the ball, Tottenham struggled to break down a resilient Wolves side and looked particularly poor in transitions.

Indeed, Wolves created plenty of chances on the break, particularly in the first half as Guglielmo Vicario was called into action on several occasions.

And Dejan Kulusevski, who netted our only goal of the game, believes Spurs simply must do better when it comes to defending their own goal.

Speaking to Spurs Play after yesterday’s defeat, Kulusevski reflected on a disappointing afternoon.

“The worst feeling,” he said. “I hate to lose. There is nothing worse than this and now we have two weeks where we cannot win a game.

“It’s tough but I think we should not lose. They’re a good team but when we scored 1-1, we had to go for the win.

“We had a lot of chances but we didn’t take them and then they score on the counterattack.”

“I saw them in quite a difficult place after that goal and we created a lot of chances,” Kulusevski added. “But we have to be disciplined, we conceded too many counterattacks.

“They could have scored even more goals so you can be positive and play good but you always have to protect your goal. We didn’t do that good enough today.”

It’s fair to say that Spurs have looked vulnerable on the break in recent weeks and being on the wrong end of a result felt inevitable.

The absences of Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro impacted our display, particularly in an attacking sense.

But while there will be some cause for concern over how many chances Spurs are giving away, Postecoglou’s side remains very much a work in progress.

We’ve already seen glimpses of what this team are capable of and it will require patience for the Aussie boss to get us where he wants us to be.
