Ange Postecoglou has just fired a January transfer warning to Daniel Levy in the aftermath of Tottenham Hotspur’s defeat to Chelsea.

Spurs allowed another two-goal lead to slip, this time to their bitter rivals Chelsea who won 4-3 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The defeat now leaves Postecoglou’s job in danger as his team imploded on yet another occasion this season.

After the match, the Tottenham manager sent a plea to Levy ahead of next month’s transfer window as he called for clear help over his squad.

Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero injury updates

Ange Postecoglou has at least provided positive injury updates on Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Brennan Johnson. Van de Ven was only planned to play 60 to 70 minutes against Chelsea.

The Dutch defender felt some tightness in his hamstring but nothing significant. Tottenham will assess him and hope not to lose him again for a significant period.

Romero’s injury is not a concern for Postecoglou although it was a different issue to his foot which has seen him miss the last few matches. The 26-year-old tweaked his quad and came off after just 15 minutes against the Blues. Finally, Brennan Johnson was just feeling unwell at half-time and that is why the winger had to come off rather than because of an injury.

Postecoglou told the media: “Romero is just hugely disappointing, felt something in his quad, he trained well, I wasn’t worried about it to be honest, Brennan just didn’t feel well at half-time, then we took him off, Micky’s plan was always to play 60/70. He didn’t feel anything significant.”

Postecoglou’s January transfer hopes

In the wake of Tottenham’s latest set of injuries, Postecoglou has called for the North London club to bolster the squad in January. The Australian manager claims his players need help because they are having to play too much to cover for injured players.

Postecoglou told Sky Sports: “We’re thin on numbers and if we’re thin in January, we’ll be looking to add to the squad because they need some help.”
