Alasdair Gold says James Maddison had to stop £50m Tottenham player from heated clash

Tottenham Hotspur were involved in a fiery clash in north London on Saturday against Brighton & Hove Albion.

And it was apparent the occasion got to some of the players out on the pitch with James Maddison forced to prevent one of his teammates from a heated clash.

It was the in-form Richarlison who was prevented from getting himself involved in an unnecessary interaction inside the first half of the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Maddison stops Richarlison clash

According to Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold, the £50m Brazilian was quick to retaliate when he thought Maddison was in a spot of bother with Pascal Gross.

The journalist took to X and said: “Little moment when James Maddison and Pascal Gross tangled on the floor in front of the north stand. Richarlison steamed in to go and help the Spurs midfielder who quickly put up a hand to stop the Brazilian from rushing in to protect him. He certainly had his back.”

Although it could have ended up in a yellow card, it just goes to show the team morale which Postecoglou has built at Hotspur Way between these players.

Richarlison revolution

It has been quite the few months for our Brazilian number nine who has been in sensational form since he returned from undergoing groin surgery.

Following the game on Saturday, he has been able to net nine goals in his last nine Premier League games and looked worthy of leading the line.

A stark contrast to his one goal in 27 league games last season.

However, it was not to be on Saturday and Richarlison drew his first blank in the Premier League since, ironically, the meeting in December with Brighton.

Of course, it would have been great to see Richarlison be the one who popped up with a late winner, but we cannot grumble given the form he has shown of late.
