Tottenham rejected the chance to sign Michael Olise as a youngster
Tottenham Hotspur rejected the chance to sign Michael Olise as a youngster due to concerns over the winger’s attitude.
The Bayern Munich attacker instead remained at Reading in their academy and eventually signed for Crystal Palace in the summer of 2021.
Speaking about Olise, Sawyers told TalkSPORT: “I have a story that I was told, he could have signed for Tottenham.
“He was brought in to Tottenham at a very young age, and part of the reason they didn’t sign him was because of issues with his attitude. This is what I was told.
At the time, Spurs were worried about his attitude and felt they didn’t need him, given they had other very promising attacking talents.
💰 Fill in the blank: Tottenham should pay no more than £__m for Savinho…
🤔 The 22-year-old managed just FOUR goals and THREE assists last season…
“The difference between what happened at Tottenham and what happened at Reading was that Reading had to keep him because he was so good; they can work around this player. Whereas Tottenham thought, ‘Well, we’ve got numerous stars,'” added Sawyer.
Spurs could be sitting here with the Bayern Munich front three of Kane, Olise, and Luis Diaz had things panned out differently.
The North London club were close to signing Diaz back in 2022; however, Liverpool swooped in and completed a deal with Porto instead.
The North London club being too slow to complete deals has cost them on so many occasions, and it’s crazy to think how different things could have been.
